To double space, or not to double space? That is the question, among many others, that you may be asking yourself about the formatting of your manuscript as you prepare to send it off to an editor. Here’s the basic … Read More »

Thanks for this! All of it was super helpful.
Quick question about the different Harlequin lines: If I target Harlequin Superromance, for instance (whether regular submission or for the contest), and you read it and think it would be better suited to a similar, yet slightly different imprint, do you send it over to another editor? Or is it an automatic rejection?
I ask because, while I think mine works best for Superromance, I think it could also fit in Intrigue or Romantic Suspense as well.
Hi, Trisha;
Generally, we find authors target the appropriate series for their books. But if we really see promise in a book but it’s better suited somewhere else, we do communicate with one another and we’d certainly tell the other editor about it.
I hope that helps!
Oh, my. Thank you for sharing this. And I must say I love Jeannie’s books. I say Thank God for line edits. I didn’t know what they were although I hear authors moaning over them. Seeing the differences gives me shivers.
And thank you for giving me permission to keep writing. I needed that as I go into information overload and it’s only day 2.
Thank you Victoria, for sharing your process with us. And thank you, Jeannie, for standing up at the front of the class and sharing your work, red ink and all.
Victoria, I hope that someday soon I’m partnered with an editor as nurturing as you appear to be. Thank you for a very informative webinar!
Is it possible to read your script somewhere on this site? There were parts I’d like to review.
Thanks, guys;
(Yes, Jeannie–I owe you one!)
Catherine, I’m looking into your request about the script. My immediate answer is: I’m not sure! I’ll see what I can find out tomorrow morning.
Any time, Victoria! I enjoyed the webinar very much.
I really appreciated this video. While I will strive to only submit my very best, it feels good to know an editor will take it beyond even that!
Couldn’t help jumping in here with one more reply. Carlene–editors are gold. I’ve learned so much since selling my first book (and before selling, thanks to Kathleen) and happily dug out my first line-edited manuscript for Victoria. As a teacher, I’ve found nothing helps more than seeing before-and-afters examples and a little red ink doesn’t bother me one bit–especially after I found out I wasn’t making “mistakes”, lol. I just needed fine-tuned.
Thanks, Linda, for loving the books. You can see what a joint effort the finished project is. Like I said, editors are gold.
Hi Victoria,
Your webinar was great- so encouraging and full of very useful suggestions.
Thank you so much for this wonderfully informative webinar. I dream one day of having a supportive editor like you. Both encouraging and inspiring – thanks again. Off to write!
This was an interesting webinat. I took a lot of notes.
In it, Victoria mentions a podcast from the 1st SYTYCW: Writing Visually by Kathleen Scheibling. I’ve looked entensively on the community forum and done searches, but can’t find it. Can you provide a link, please?
And thanks!
Never mind. I did another couple searches and found it. For anyone else wanting it: http://www.harlequin.com/article.html?articleId=1564
Glad you were able to find Kathleen Scheibling’s archived podcast, Carol!
Catherine, I’m sorry I won’t be able to archive my written script for this webinar. But the actual audio/slide presentation is going to remain here, so you can listen to me again(!) and take those notes you wanted to.
Best!
