7 Questions for Debut Author Jill Lynn

The Love Inspired team certainly has been busy! Here’s the story of another exciting, talented debut author they’ve found!

Seven Things Writers Want to Know:

What got you interested in writing?

I’ve always liked to write, and I read constantly. I knew I wanted to write a book someday, and I suddenly realized time was slipping away. How long was I going to wait before trying? That’s when I started learning how to write fiction.

What has been the most useful thing you’ve done to get to this point?

I prayed. A lot. I asked God to lead me to the right agent, editor and publishing house. Even when I took a break from writing or felt frustrated, I always prayed about these things.

What is the one thing you wish you’d learned sooner?

To ask for help. I didn’t find a critique partner right away, and when I did, she greatly improved my writing.

Which book or blog or site or conference or contest would you recommend for new writers?

One of my favorite places online for writing help is MyBookTherapy.com. They have Monday night chats that are perfect for new writers. As for contests, I gained a lot of great feedback from the two American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) contests. The First Impressions contest is an amazing way for new writers to get feedback. The Genesis contest is also an excellent contest for finished manuscripts.

What drew you to Harlequin?

I knew Harlequin was open to new authors. I aimed for the Love Inspired line, knowing I wanted to write inspirational romance.

What did you do when you got the call?

I was at Panera writing when my agent called. I answered, knowing I might be annoying everyone in the restaurant, but I had to take that call! After, I left because I was too excited to go back to writing. I went outside to my car and called my husband. I have great memories of that day. 🙂

What is the elevator pitch for the book?

Runaway coach Olivia Grayson rolls into Texas with a trunk full of mistakes. When she agrees to tutor one of her new volleyball players, she vows that falling for the girl’s irresistible older brother won’t be added to them. Rancher Cash Maddox promised to raise his sister with undivided attention, but the new coach threatens his resolve. Cash and Olivia agree to be friends, but God has other plans.

Current title and pub date:

It’s currently titled Teaching Olivia, but that will be changing. Expected publishing date is sometime in 2015.
